After the Game

After the Game is a small sculptural installation based on a simple plastic toy designed to launch and catch lightweight balls. In its original form, the object requires movement, coordination and repetition: an action unfolds through a sequence of attempts, successes and failures. In this work, that dynamic has disappeared. The mechanisms are rendered inoperative through subtle interventions. One ball is permanently sealed inside a transparent resin cube. In one device, the launching mechanism is blocked by hardened resin; in another, the opening of the catching basket is obstructed by a resin form containing a second ball. The system remains visible, but can no longer function. The elements are arranged without a clear operational logic, as if they were left behind after use. This absence of direction shifts the work away from demonstration and toward a condition of quiet suspension. The toy no longer performs; it persists. Presented on a minimal pedestal and enclosed within a transparant vitrine, the installation assumes the status of an artifact. The materials - plastic and resin - retain the visual language of play while withholding its activation, imbuing the work with a quiet sense of melancholia.
